Education:
-
Technical University of Denmark
Master of Science in Engineering, July 2001.
Studied at the Informatics and Mathematical
Modelling institute of Technical University
of Denmark. I focused on image- and signal processing, numerical methods
and algorithms. I wrote my masters thesis at the Image Analysis section
under the supervision of
Rasmus Larsen. The thesis
was titled Shape Representation,
Alignment and Representation. I received the grade 13 for my work, the
highest possible grade on the Danish scale.
-
University of Iceland
C.S. degree in Computer and Electric Engineering (B.Sc. + one year) June 1999
Graduation project: "Detection and classification of vessels on
retinal fundus images." The project lead to a research grant and to the
award for innovation in 1999 from the Icelandic president.
-
Menntaskólinn við Hamrahlíð (Hamrahlíð
College)
Graduated with both a major in physics and nature science in 1995.
Points needed for graduation are 140 but I finished with 160.
-
Holte Gymnasium - Denmark
I took the first year of college in Denmark while living there 1991-1992.
Awards and grants:
-
Presidential medal for innovation in research 1999
An award given by the Icelandic president for my research on
automatic detection and classification of vessels on retinal
fundus images.
-
The research fund for students 1999
Funding for working on automatic detection and classification of
vessels on retinal fundus images (images of the bottom of the eye).
The work aimed at creating an automatic diagnostic support system
to assist ophthalmologist in diagnosing diabetic retinopaty.
-
The Danish Rectors Conference
Scholarship of 9 months´ duration during the academic year 1999-2000
for studies at the Technical University of Denmark.

Work:
-
Marel hf.
Engineer in research and technical development department, autumn 2001-current time
Research and development of computer vision with emphasis on
X-ray imaging and processing.
-
Research assistant for Center for Proteom Analysis & DTU
Research and programming, summer 2000
Implemented image processing algorithms that will be used
to automate the processing of electrophoresis gels used for
proteom analysis at the Center for Proteom Analysis (CPA) in
Odense Denmark. The work was done at the section for Image Analysis
at DTU.
-
University of Iceland
Research, summer 1999
Hired to do continued research related to my graduation
project: "Detection and classification of vessels on retinal
fundus images". The aim is to create an automated system
to assist opthalmologists in diagnosing diabetic retinopati.
I was awarded the medal for innovation in 1999 from the Icelandic president
for my work on this project.
-
Morgunblaðið
Programmer and system administrator, summer 1997 - 1999
Morgunblaðið is the largest newspaper in Iceland. I've been
responsible for and/or involved in designing and implementing the database
structure and most programs needed for publishing Morgunblaðið
on the web. I designed their database for tracking sports results and putting
them on the web, I was part of the team that created their news web and
I did most of the work regarding the database work behind the real estate
web. My work speaks for it self I hope:

Teymi hf. - Oracle in Iceland
User support and system administration, summer 1996 - Christmas
1996
Responsible for helping Oracle (which is a relational database system)
users and solving their problems and administrating the local Unix computers.
User support often involved contacting and working with Oracle's support
office in Denmark. I also wrote a system for tracking support cases and
improving the quality of the user support.
-
Íslenska menntanetið - Icelandic Educational Network (http://www.ismennt.is/)
Technician for the Icelandic Educational Network from Christmas
1994- summer 1995
The Icelandic Educational Network was pioneering in networking and
connecting schools and educational institutions in Iceland to the Internet.
My role was to create a package of the software needed to connect to the
Internet and designing a networking service for schools with Internet connection.
I also did some system administration.
